Counseling Programs: (500 – 800 words) Use the following points as a guide to write your Statement of Purpose for admissions in the graduate Counseling Program: Describe how you became interested in pursuing a graduate degree in counseling (specifically school, mental health, or rehabilitation counseling) including any personal, educational, vocational, or volunteer experiences that have informed your interest.; Describe any personal qualities supporting your decision to become a professional counselor and how will these qualities impact your training and work as a counselor. These can include diversity and multicultural aspects as well as other personal, educational, and/or social experiences. We view diversity/multiculturalism broadly and inclusive of gender, ethnic background, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, language, immigration history, ability/disability, and economic status.; What are your expectations of graduate training in counseling as well as becoming a professional counselor? What aspects of the graduate training to become a professional counselor do you anticipate to be most challenging?; Describe why you are interested in being accepted to the Hunter College Counseling Program as well as the specific counseling tract (mental health, rehabilitation or school) you are applying for as well as what area you expect to practice and the populations you wish to work with when you graduate.
